प्रोटोटाइपिंग

Prototyping allows designers to evaluate the form, fit, and function of a product before committing to mass production. Whether it’s an entire object or components for a project, our commitment to precision and quality ensures that each prototype meets your unique specifications.

Various materials require distinct manufacturing processes to guarantee the production of high-quality products. Although our prototype may not have been suitable for sitting, it excelled in creating molds that remain in use today.

Whether you refer to them as mold inserts, form inserts, or plugs, we have the expertise to design and manufacture these essential elements in a variety of shapes and sizes.

Mold Inserts

Functionality

Prototypes provide a visual representation of the product, helping stakeholders, designers, and clients better understand the form, features, and capabilities of the final product.

Mold inserts for unconventional desk legs

Before and after: mold inserts for an unconventional 7 foot long table with transitional hyperbolic legs. Very unique design!

Mold Inserts in their preferred habitat, inside melamine molds of course

Mold inserts are useful in prototyping scenarios that involve multiple materials or colors. Different inserts can be used for different sections of the prototype, allowing for a more realistic representation of the final product.

  • Multi-Material Testing & Prototyping

  • Complex Shapes

Plugs are valuable when prototyping parts with complex shapes that wouldn’t be possible with a single mold. They can be incorporated to create features with varying depths or angles.

  • Complex Geometries

Plugs that require intricate shapes or forms that are challenging to reproduce using straightforward geometric shapes. These shapes often involve curves, twists, and irregularities. Complex geometries include:

  • Non-Euclidean Geometries

Scalloped foam form insert inside melamine mold.
  • Asymmetry

  • Irregular Surfaces

  • Intersecting or Overlapping Elements

  • Curves and Non-linear Shapes

  • Twisted and Spiraled Shapes

  • Parametric and Algorithmic Designs

  • Organic and Freeform Shapes

  • Nested Elements

Non-Euclidean Geometries, demonstrated by hyperbolic or elliptic geometries, can be conceptualized by envisioning a saddle shape or sphere respectively.

Our 3 piece Boden planter molds in production.

Fiberglass profile molds are customized to create precise shapes for uniform applications. Crafted for professional use, these molds cater to both residential and commercial demands.

Profile Molds

While fiberglass is a great option for longevity and multiple uses, it may not always fit the bill for each project. We offer an alternative process that delivers the same outcome as a true fiberglass profile mold. These profile molds produce at minimum 1 exact unit and depending on your product’s process has the potential to produce multiple units when handled properly at a fraction of the cost.

Professional renditions of Boden Benches in White and Grey on a white background with delicate shadows

A superb collaboration with Chicago Concrete Studio and Magnuson Group. The Boden Bench is ideally nestled in urban spaces or vibrant commercial areas. The concrete material, treated for weather resistance, promises longevity, making these outdoor benches a reliable and stylish addition to bustling environments.

Scalloped edge concrete sink in terracotta color with textured base in concrete spray booth

We worked with Chicago Concrete Studio to create this unique scalloped concrete sink. The edges add a touch of charm, creating a visually striking silhouette that sets it apart from conventional sinks. The concrete material not only lends durability but also imparts an earthy texture. This sink makes a bold statement in any kitchen or bathroom.

Overhead shot of long black concrete table with gold leafed cracks in the workshop

We were asked to design realistic renditions of the ancient Japanese art of Kintsugi into functional tables for a local Chicago restaurant. The shop photo above is the largest of 17 concrete Kintsugi tables after gold leafing. Each fracture was delicately crafted to not only serve as a functional surface but to also establish an inviting and visually captivating dining environment.

These two shots are fantastic customer photos taken at Perilla restaurant. Every cleft in the design was meticulously positioned to harmonize with seating arrangements and table settings. This ensured that patrons not only savor the exquisite dishes but also experience a hint of the art peeking through the edges of their plates. These concrete Kintsugi tables are one of our most favorite styles to date. Another successful collaboration with Chicago Concrete Studio.
